GRANDSTAND FIRE

DUNEDIN TRAGEDY. DUNEDIN, October 6. Comment that the City Corporation had shown considerable laxity in allowing petrol to be stored m tne main grandstand at Logan Park was made by Coroner H. W. Bundle, S.M., at the ‘conclusion of an inquest in.o tiie death of Thomas Walter Fort., aged 25, whose remains were found in the debris of a' fire which destroyed the grandstand on the morning of Sunday, September 14. Tne evidence of ten witnesses was heard, and tne Coroner found that the deceased cued from asphyxia and shock in an accidental lire. It was stated by tne caretaker of the stand that, on the previous night all of the doors were securely locked, and there was no fire in the‘building. The deceased was found lying over a four-gallon petrol tin.
