WEST COAST CENTRE. The 35th. annual meeting of the West Coast Centre of the N.Z. Athletic, Cycling and Axemen s Union was held at the Old Boys Club Rooms on Saturday. Mr J. Flaherty, President, was in the chair, and also present, were Messrs F. Williams (Vice-President), F. Slater, J. Donaldson, W. Maloney and G. E. Perkins (Secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs J. Tennent (Treasurer), J. W. Coumbe /VicePresident, V. Messenger (Cycle Club, M. Kelly (St. Patrick’s), B. F. Connor (Blackball), W. Pring (Agricultural Show), J. Wylde (Ikamatua), and W. Lamberton (Nelson Creek) • Before proceeding to the business, the President made kindly reference to the late Messrs J. Steel and J. Bannister, active competitors, and Messrs Howard and James, keen supporters of the sport, and very , much regretted their deaths. A motion of condolence with the. relatives was passed, all standing in silence for a few minutes. The President’s annual report and the balance sheet were read and adopted, showing assets £244 12s lOd with no liabilities. It was decided to congratulate Jack Cooper on his win in the 25 mile N.Z. Cycling Road Championship, this adding another to the West Coast’s Roll of Winners of Champion, ships. The Secretary read correspondence from the newly-formed clubs at Bruce Bay and Okarito, and it was decided that he. write them further regarding holding meetings and complying with the Rules, also to submit their programme in future and send results of their last meetings. Mr A. Barratt, of Waiho, was duly appointed as an official starter of the Centre. Mr J. Donaldson was elected a life member and the Roll of Honour now reads: D. Moffatt, A. W. Peebles, G. E. Perkins and J. Donaldson. Mr G. E. Perkins was appointed this Centre’s representative on the N.Z. Union for the following year. The matter of some of the axemen competitors infringing in the Rules was brought up and discussed, and it was resolved that officials at sports meetings should report any infringement, and that if so reported to the 'Centre, the competitors so behaving would be severely dealt with. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President: Mr J. Flaherty! Vice-Presidents: Messrs W. H Coumbe, J. R. Taylor and F. Williams; Committee: Messrs V. Messenger, B. F. Connors, F. Slater, A. T. Ridsdale. and J. Donaldson; Treasurer: Mr J. Tennent; Secretary: Mr G. E. Perkins. The following dates were allotted for the coming season: 1942: February 7: Karoro; February 14: Greymouth Show; February 28: Ikamatua; March 7: Blackball; March 14St. Patrick’s, Greymouth; March 28: Nelson Creek; April 4 (Easter Saturday): Lake Brunner; Mav 2: Wataroa; May 16: Harihari; May 30: Waiho. It was left to the Chairman and Secretary to allot further dates,or altering of the above if desired ' and it was possible to do so wihtout clashing. The usual honorarium was voted to the Secretary, and a vote of thanks to the Press and the Chairman terminated the meeting. ..
