BATTLE IN CHINA
200,000 Men Engaged CHUNGKING, Sept. 24. The Central Daily News says the Chinese Air Force-Jiu.rled huge formations of planes into a big battle in north Hunan Province. The Chinese • aviators attacked Japanese planes, bombed a Japanese gunboat, and returned to their base without loss. It is estimated that at least 100,000 Japanese and a similar number of Chinese are fighting in Hunan. A severe battle is raging along the entire north Hunan front. Four large Japanese detachments crossed the Milo River. A Japanese southward drive into Hunan Province is being strongly resisted. The Japanese have also begun a southward drive in southern Hupeh Province, and a battle is going on near the bolder of the Kiangai Province. JAPANESE IN INDO-CHINA. BATAVIA. September 24. Dutchmen returning from. IndoChina state that M._ Yoshizawa is expected soon practically to take over Indo-China’s administration. Japanese troops are feverishlv constructing runwftys at all aerodromes, and men and material are continuously being transported to Cambodia.
