TOBRUK ENGAGEMENT
ENEMY CLAIMS SUCCESS.
(Received Mid-night). LONDON, September 15. The Italian Official News Agency claims that the Italian-German forces In a night action, have captured important positions east of Tobruk. One post was taken after hand-to-hand fighting. The enemy left a number of dead and wounded behind. Axis Preparations FOR WESTERN DESERT ATTACK. (Rec. 12 40). LONDON. Sept. 15. The Ankara Radio hints that Axis forces are preparing to make a desperate effort to smash the British preparations for a sweep into Libya to relieve Tobruk. An Australian war correspondent at Cairo says: “There are abundant signs that, the enemy’s strength is being concentrated on the Egyptian frontier.”
