The Pukeko is due from Wellngton to-morrow to load coal for New Plymouth. The Wingatui is expected from Wellington on Friday to load coal for return to Wellington. The Karepo is expected from Portland about Monday next, to load coal for Auckland. Personal: Miss D. Brown, returned yesterday from a visit to her sisters at Blenheim Airwomen M. Croawell and M. Robertson, left on Monday on return to Wigrain and Harewood. Mr. J. Mason, radio technician, left yesterday on return to Harewood Camp, after spending leave at WestP Mrs. R. Hinman and, children, of Queen Street, left on Monday to spend the school holidays at Christ' church. „ , T Mr. W. D. Lutton and Mr. R. Harden accompanied the Buller Primary Schools’ Rugby Representatives to Blenheim yesterday morning. Later in the week, Mr. Lutton goes on to Wellington to attend the annual conference of educational officers. Smaller Beers!: At a meeting ol the Westport Licensed Victuallers on Monday afternoon, it was decided to follow the Price Investigation Tribunal's recommendation oy dispensing 12 ounce glasses of beer, and also to abolish “shouting.” These conditions will be brought into force in Westport on Monday next. Rugby Union: Those present at last night’s meeting of the Buller Rugby Union Management Committee were as follows: Messrs J. PMcEnaney (Chairman), J'. Feehan, S. Stewart, J. Mason, F. Foote, F Woodward, C. M. Robertson, H. Casey and the Secretary, Mr. W. A. Craddock. Messrs R. Pratt, W. D. Lutton, V. Goodall .and T. Scanlon were granted leave of absence. With regard to the King incident, a letter from the West Coast Union stated that no action had been taken in the matter and alleged as unconstitutional the holding of an enquiry into the matter. The letter was received. Mr. L. Siddels. of Wairau Valley Hotel, was thanked for entertaining the Buller team en route to Blenheim. The Secretary said that he had received advice that Nelson Aii' Force team would not be able to make a trip to Westport. Mr. Craddock said that he had been told in Blenheim that the Woodbourne Air Force team would be visiting Westport. This was confirmed later by telephone. It was decided to select 25 players to go into training for selection in the Seddon Shield team to play West Coast on September 13 Mr. Stewart was appointed as a coach for town players. Practices are to be held o n Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Victoria Square at 4.45 p.m. On wet nights, practices will be held in the “Star gymnasium, beginning at 7.30. It was decided to assemble the 25 players selected at either Granity or Ngakawau for a practice on Sunday. Pirates were declared winners of the junior competition for the Prince Memorial Cup. On behalf of the Westport and Karamea units of the Home Guard, Mr. Foote thanked the Union for assistance in recent matches between the two units. Ihe selectors were instructed to pick a Buller representative team to play the team from Woodbourne Air Force Station at Victoria Square on September 9. They were also instructed to select Possible and Probable teams for a curtain raiser. Messrs McEnaney, Craddock and Scanlon were appointed as a Committee to interview the Westport Aero Club with a view to making arrangements foi' a ball on September 5. Mr. Craddock was given leave of absence from next Saturday’s meeting and Mr. Scanlon appointed acting secretary. The White Star junior team was granted permission to play a junior team from the Celtic Club Greymouth,, next. Saturday. The Secretary was instructed to ascertain from the West Coast Union whether it would consider selecting a team to play a Buller third grade representative team on September 13 Fixtures for next Saturday are as follows—Albion Cup: Old Boys v. Pirates, at Victoria Square, 2.40 pm Referee, F. Foote. WestportStar v. United, at Waimangaroa, 2.45 pm. Referee, W. Thurlow. Ngakawau v. Rangers, at Ngakawau. 2.45 p.m. Referee, S. Stewart. Foote Shield: White Star v. Granity High School, at Trotting Track, 1.15 p.m. Referee V. Anderson. Junior friendly vame: White Star v. Celtic (Greymouth), at Victoria Square, 1.15 p.m. Referee, W. Wilson. Schools Rugby: The Buller primary school boys’ representative rugby team arrived in Blenheim yesterday after an excellent trip in perfect weather. The draw Tor the tournament is: Tuesday: v. Marlborough. Wednesday: v. Nelson. Thursday: v. West Coast. Friday, v. Golden Bay-Motueka. Soldiers Relations’ Club: The social afternoon held by the Soldiers Relations Club in the Friendly Societies’ Hall on August 22, proved very successful and the funds ol the Club were considerably augmented These funds are used solely for parcels for soldiers overseas, but it is also intended to give soldiers children a Christmas party.' '1 he produce stall, laden with cakes, sweets, vegetables, flowers and fancy goods did a good trade, while numerous games and competitions were also in progress. The winners ot the various competitions were: Mrs Fox (sachet), Mrs. Taylor (soap set), Mrs. Glenn (cake), Mrs. Piercey (apron). A recitation by Mrs. Doutnett and a pianoforte solo by Miss Wells, were much appreciated by all. A feature of the function was the sumptuous home made afternoon tea.
