HARIHARI NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) A most enjoyable function took place at the Harihari School on Friday, August 22, when parents and children'met to bid farewell to Miss J. Denia, after six years’ service as assistant mistress at the 'school. Speaking on behalf of the committee and parents, Mr C. L. George, said they all regretted losing Miss Dema s services in view of her new role m the district and conveyed his thanks for her good work and his best wishes for the days ahead.. Mr W. Searle, junr., a committee member for many years, added his expression of appreciation of Miss Denia and referred to the splendid reports of the inspectors and her work in the the school. The headmaster Mr T. Kelly, thanked Miss Denia for her co-operation and assistance and for the admiraole manner in which the tone and discipline of the school had been maintained as a result of Miss Denia’s efficiency. Whilst regretting her departure he wished her every happiness in the future. Two pupils, Nona Manship and Vilma Robertson, on behalf of the pupils presented Miss Denia with a tea-set and an envelope, whilst thanking he r for her valuable assistance and advice. They wished her good-bye and good luck. Miss Denia, on replying, was greeted with musical honours. She thanked all for their kind remarks and for their very useful presents. Her time at the school had been a very happy one, and she did not like leaving, but hoped that all would call on her and renew their friendship. Several items by the children were presented durino- the proceedings after which the ladies served an excellent afternoon tea at the conclusion jof a very happy gathering. The children’s items included: “God- Defend N.Z.”, “The Woodpecker’s Sons?”; “Hoki H,oki”; “P’okarekare”; "The Ferry Boat Serenade”; also verseI speaking, recitations by Colleen Adamson and Ngaire Connelly, and Now is the Hour,” followed by "Auld Lang Syne.” The Annual meeting of the Inter Wanganui Dairy Coy was held at the secretary’s office last week when there was an attendance of about 30 suppliers. Messrs R. H. McMillan and H. N. Osmers were reelected Directors. Mr. Fred Wyatt was also nominated for one of the seats.

At a. Meeting of the Directors Mr. W. Searle, J'unr was elected chairman.

The local school broke up on Friday for the second term holidays. A Rugby fifteen from the Wataroa’ visited here on Sunday afternoon to play the local fifteen. After a very rugged game the local team ran out winners by 12 pts to nil. Mr. G. Robertson had charge of the game. Rev. Father Murphy O. F. M. arrived here on Saturday to conduct Missions in the Ross parish. Rev. Father Joyce of Ross accompanied the Missioner. Ai Mission was begun here on Sunday and will conclude on Thursday. Miss E. Kidd of Christchurch, is on a visit to her parents here.
