Riley, previously reported as wounded, is missing. Mr Frank Smith, South Island representative of tne Auckland Weekly News, is visiting Westport. At last night’s meeting oi the Westport Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr J M. Robertson), referred to the death of Mrs J. W. Jope wile of the Borough Inspector, and Councinois stood in silence as a mark of respect. A Grant Approved: Owing to the press report of the last meetin nr or the Nelson Education Board disclosing that still no progress had been made with regard to -repanng. tne site for the new school, the Westport Committee ’phoned Hon P. C. Webb and asked that the matter be expedited. As a result of Mr Webbs activities he tele"' , ”nhed the Chairman of the Westnort School Committee, as follows: “Mrs W. L. Iluntei 1 have pleasure in informing you that a grant has been approved to the Nelson Education Board for the draining and rough levelling °f the North School site. The School Committee on behalf of parents, and children, expjess their appreciation toi Mr Webb’s action.
