GREY MAIN SCHOOL
TO-DAY’S GALA.
Arrangements were made for a Gala Day to be held at the Greymouth Main School to-day, in aid of the school committee’s general fund, at a meeting of the Committee on Tuesday, there being present Messrs J W. Greenslade (chairman), G. Batty, H. Smith, E. Smith, L. Patterson, W. Williams, R. Anderson, A. Daiziel, C. F. Shapcott (secretary), and two ladies. Mr J. Graham (Headmaster) was represented by Mr E. Panckhurst, who said that the staff had made arrangements for a school concert, and had organised the various stalls, but women helpers would be required from 1 p.m. As a result of circulars sent to parents, generous promises of goods and cash had been made. A display of work will take place at 3 p.m., and tne concept will commence at 7.30 p.m. The stalls will include sweets, cakes, produce and jumble. The secretary reported that tne Committee had a credit balance of £37 15s sd. J Mr H. Smith said that the Headmaster had complained about the paper etc., left on the school grounds by basketball players. The question of the proposed rod of honour of ex-pupils in the armed forces, was postponed until the next meeting. It was decided to forward a letter to the Education Board, referring to the frequent changes in the staffing, and pointing out that this is not in the best interests of the school generally.
