NATIVE PIGEONS DECIMATED.

[To the Editor.] Sir,—Pigeons are in this district fastly becoming- a “national” sport. I refer to the Turiwhate, Christchurch Road, Teremakau and the Mitchell’s Road. If these so-called sportsmen confined themselves to the snooting of one or two birds, no one would complain, but they prefer to make hogs of themselves, and go so far as to ooast of murdering one hundred birds in a week! Do they realise that if their senseless slaughter is permitted to continue, the pigeon, to gratify their beastly greeu, wilt be extinct. I know that most of these people imagine they can elude the law by a few time-worn tricks—but 1 know them also! So I take this opportunity to warn them, through your widely-read paper, as a prelude to stronger action. I am etc., SPORTSMAN, Kumara.
