FERTILISER FOR FARMS
RATIONING SCHEME WELLINGTON, July 22. The Government's decision in re"ard to the quantity of fertiliser allowable for top-aressing purposes was announced by the Minister ot Agriculture (Mr Barclay) to-day. As a result of returns secured from approximately 70,000 farmers, said Mr Barclay, he was able to announce tnat farmers would be able to receive 40 per cent, of the average annual amount of phosnhate which they used for ton-dressing during the past two seasons. It had been deckled that, where a farmer wished to take n« u '— ->es or phosphate in place of superphospate, increases commensurate in the nhosnhatic content of such fertiliser would be allowed. Thus, for every ton ot superphosphate which a farmer is granted in his ration, he mav replace it with anv one of the following at the stated Quantities: Basic super, one ton four cwt.: reverted super, one ton four cwt.- sementine super, one ton seven cwt.; and Heskett’s slag, two tons e'wht cwt. It was expected that many farmers would instruct their merchants to add lime or other non-nhosphatic ingredients to their fertiliser ration? and the Government was also - 'dying restrictions in this connection.
