FRENCH SHIPS
INTERNED IN TURKEY. RELEASE REFUSED. (Rec. 5.5).- LONDON, July 21,\ According to “The Times” Istanbul correspondent, the Government at Vichv. France, is demanding that Turkey shall release the French ships that .have been sheltering in Alexandretta since leaving Syria. The French are pleading that a state of war does not exist between France and Britain, and that therefore the French ships should not be considered to be belligerents
It is understood that Turkev has refused the French demand on the ground that these shins took refuge fit. the Turkish port as the result of warlike operations in Svr’a between the French and the Br’t’sh forces.
