Dwan arrived from Christchurch by yesterday’s express, Mrs T Minotti and Masses Eileen and Mary Minotti arrived yesterday from Christchurch. ' Cpl. G. Roberts, formerly oi the Clerical staff, Railways Department, Greymouth, returned yesterday from overseas, having been invalided home. Mr W. H. Larcombe, Secretary to the New Zealand Trotting Association, arrived yesterday from Christchurch.

Mr J W. F. Welch, agefl 36 years, formerly of the Signals and Electrical Branch of the Railways Department, has been appointed to the new post of Engineer to the Wellington City Tramways Department. Major M. A. Stedman, Assistant-Quartermaster-General for the Southern Military District, has been promoted to the rank of Temporary-Lieu-tenant-Colonel and appointed Camp Commandant at the Burnham Mobilisation Camp. He commenced duties yesterday. Captain C. L. MeredithKaye, of Christchurch, has been promoted to the temporary rank of Major and 'appoin/Ved AfcsistantrQuart-ermaster-General, Southern Military District.
The death occurred suddenly, on Wednesday of the Honourable Viliami Tugi. Prince Consort of Tonga. De ceased, who married Queen Salote ifr 1917, had been Premier since 1920, The Assistant-High Commissioner tor the Western Pacific says that during the period of Prince Tugi’s Premiership, relations with Tonga have been marked with cordiality. He always worked hard and loyally for the welfare of the people in Tonga. The death occurred last evening of a respected res.dent, Mr Sterne Joseph Young, of Boddytown. A native of Invercarg 11, the deceased, who was 65 years of age, was. by trade a carpenter, and beiore coming to Greymouth, carried on his occupation at Westport. He resided for 30 years at Boddytown and previously in Marsden Road, and for more than 20 years had been an invalid, but neverthffie/s maintained a live interest in events. He formerly wa s an I enthusiastic bandsman, hav ng been a member of the o'd .Greymoutb Catholic and Citizens’ Bands, and was also a member of the Foresters’ Lodge. Piedeceased 21 years ago bv his wife, he leaves a daughter. Mrs J. L. Bourke (Boddvtown) and r\v.> sisters one residing in Australia, and lhe other, Mrs S. Mart’n, of Cood- n. The funeral takes nlneo to-mirrow rnorffinw following Requiem M.S; at St. Patrick’s Church.
