NAVAL SECRETARY On Aid For Britain [A„s. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] WASHINGTON. July 14. “I belong to the school of thinkers who regard as imperative the policy of aiding England at whatever cost to ourselves, to promote both our present security and future national welfare.” said Colonel Knox, in an interview, answering some critics who regard him as leader of the war party. Colonel Knox added he did not believe that a free, independent, and democratic United States could long survive in a Nazi-dominated world. Wherever the pursuit of such a policy might lead, he hoped it would not lead America into war, but, in his opinion, war as defence against Nazism would be infinitely preferable to peace accomplished by surrender to Hitlerism.
