PROPAGANDA FRONT

CHANGE IN BRITISH CONTROL. (Rec. 9.25). LONDON. July 17. The British Ministry of Information has now been given charge of the full day-to-day control of the 8.8. C. services, and the news propaganda. It has also been made responsible for both “initiative and censorship.” ' ' Lord Moyne, in the House of Lords announced this as being a concession to what the “Daily Telegraph” describes as “powerful demands for the centralised control of British propaganda.” r It says: “This decision also, probably. meets the persistent campaign by Empire newspaper correspondents fo r the subjection of the 8.8. C. to the same censorship as the overseas press services, and for no favouritism in the releasing of news to the 8.8. C., before the newspapers. Lord Moyne said the Government realised the importance of maintaining the independence of the 8.8. C.
