PRICE OF COKE
Christchurch Increase DUE TO SHORTAGE. (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. A price order, controlling the sale of coke in Christchurch for the next six weeks, at a . slightly increased rate has been issued by the Pi ice Investigation Tribunal. According to a statement from the Tribunal today, the supply of coke in Christchurch has fallen short of the demand because of increased requirements of the Railways Department, and of large industrial organisations, and the position has become so acute lately, that supplies have had to be obtained from Timaru and Dunedin. The additional costs thus incurred have been spread to cover all of the coke sold in Christchurch, and these will be borne proportionately by all the users, industrial and commercial alike. The shortage will be overtaken by the end of August, i when the old prices will be reverted to. As the result of this temporary arrangement, small users of two or three bags will require to pay 3d per bag extra. The rise in the case of larger quantities will be slightly smaller. Half-ton lots and ton lots will be 2s and 4s dearer respectively. The new prices operate as from today.
