LPer Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. “There is such great corifusion that I think there ought to be some proper pronouncement about it so that there can be no further question,” said Mr. E. C. Lewey, S.M,, m dismissing charges connected with failure to enrol in the general reserve, in the Magistrate's Court today. James Mcßeath Mackenzie, proprietor of Tattersail’s Hotel, was charged with employing a reservist who had not enrolled, and Edward John Spencer, the employee, was charged with failing to enrol. , Mr. JA. Kennedy, for Mackenzie, said that the accused had thought that the Social Security registration was all that was needed, and this was a very general impression, as it had been stated by the Government that the reserve lists would be compiled from Social Security registrations. Walter Thomas Manning was charged with the same offence, and he gave the same explanation as Spencer. The charge was dismissed on payment of costs. NAPIER, May 16.
Possession of a radio without the special permit required by enemy aliens, was responsible for the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court in Napier of Konrad Carl Andreas Gailer, a German, who was fined £l5 by Mr. J'. Miller, S.M. The Court was informed by Chief Detective H. Nuttall that Gailer had had the position explained to him by the police, after, which Gailer got rid of the radio set.
