RUNANGA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] The Runanga Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society’s thirteenth annual report for the year ending March 31, states We have pleasure in presenting the thirteenth annual report. The year ha's been a most satisfactory one for the Society, especially so in view of the fact that the war, and all it implies, must come first with every citizen. During the year some of our committee members withdrew from the Society, but it was fortunate in gaining new ones, and to these people* we -are grateful, and trust their membership will be continued. The annual ball was held on July 19th, once again being a successful function. In October and November the annual house-to-house collection took place, and in spite of so many calls being made on the public for patriotic purposes a very generous response was accorded the canvassers. The committee wishes to thank all who so willingly and ably assisted at both the ball and the collection. In July we were sorry to say farewell to Mrs. F. Wylde, who had, in previous years, been at all times a capable and generous assistant at the balls. The committee decided to tender to Mrs. Wylde an evening and a small presentation, in recognition of her services. We have received during the year from the House Committee of the Lady King Karitane Hospital its quarterly reports. These reports have been fully appreciated by our members who have found them most interesting. To our regret we have to report during the year the illnesses of Mesdames King and Hall, and trust that these members are now fully recovered, and will continue to keep good health. To two other members of our committee, Mesdames Griffiths and Densem, we offer congratulations on the birth of a son and daughter respectively. Recently our Plunket Nurse has had occasion to resign, as she has volunteered and been accepted for service overseas, and will leave shortly on her new work. Our thanks are due to Nurse Everett for her splendid work in the Branch during the year, and the committee desires to wish the nurse every success and the best of luck in the future. Our thanks are due to our auditor, Miss Davison, to the Press, who are always most obliging, and finally, to all who have assisted the Sub-Branch in ’ any capacity throughout the year. We all feel confident that the new year upon which the Branch is entering, will be as successful as in previous years, and we cannot conclude this annual report without all members expressing their sincere desire for a speedy and victorious ending to the war, and with the wish that the always necessary work of the Plunket Society will not, in the meanwhile, be neglected. It was decided to reply that interest was not this year very keen, as nominations had not been received from the clubs affiliated last season, but. it had been decided in the meantime to keep th e Association in existence until next meeting, although there were not sufficient nominations then to hand, the only thing to oe done would be to drop the senior and
junior grades and instead encourage school football, wherever possible. It was decided to leave over til next meeting the matter of electing officers.
