ROSS NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] Last week Ross was again busy with entertainment in support of the Army Queen funds. A pleasing feature is the efforts being made by different individuals in the community. The' results of these little gatherings are most encouraging and are an indication of what the keenness of one .or two can accomplish. The Carnival Committee is most grateful to these people for the very remarkable additions they are able to make to the funds. Mrs Colin Wilson entertained about 40 guests at her home .last W'eclnesdayv when the time was spent very' peasantry in games and competitions. A stall stocked with drapery and produce was well patronised and much credit is due to Mrs Wilson for her effort. On Friday evening Mrs Busch held a euchre party at her residence when the guests proclaimed the evening a most enjoyable one. Prizes donated by Mrs Busch were won by Mrs Ord and Messrs J. Muir, J. Jones and P. Head. The Fire Brigade have very kindly consented to run a weekly euchre tournament in aid of the Army Queen funds. All prizes are donated, and these tournaments are' keenly contested. The Ross Committee acknowledges with thanks the following Franz ] Josef donations: —Gibb Bros £7 2s; Patriotic Committee £2O. It has been decided that for th e duration of the Carnival no further donations will be publicly acknowledged, but when the Carnival has been concluded a complete statement of finance received from each district will be published. For the gala day at Hokitika last Saturday, Ross, ’in common with other districts, provided a band of willing workers. The day was a most successful one, and was concluded with a dance in the Totara Hall in the evening.
