RUNANGA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] A team of players from the Runanga Tennis Club visited the Kumara Club on Sunday to play a friendly match, which was won by Kunanga by 9 sets to 6. The Runanga players were entertained at dinner by the Kumara Club and spent a very enjoyable day. Mr J. Clark returned to Harewood R A.F. Training School yesterday, after spending a few days’ leave with •his parents. „ Mr K Southward, of Wigram R.A.f. Training School was home on -eave during the week-end, and has now left on return. In perfect weather conditions on Saturday the Runang a Bowling Club held its annual, “ladies’ day,” when the wives of the members were entertained at the green. Afternoon tea was served in a very capable manner by Messrs A. Taylor, T. Ward and F. White, and a pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by everyone. Mrs A. Taylor was successful in winning the bowling competition, with Mrs T. Gallon second. All the ladies present were recipients of useful trophies donated by the club. Members of the Golf Club held a one-club open competition on Saturday when a good number of enthusiastic members were present Mrs S. Winstanley was the winner of the ladies’ competition with Mrs E. Martin runner-up; and Mr D. Bell and Mr W. Kennedy were respectively first and second in the men’s competition. Afternoon tea was served in the Domain pavilion. It is hoped that this is the first of many such competitions to be held during the coming season.
