VICTORIA PARK TO-MORROW, The annual St. Patrick’s sports take place at Victoria Park to-mor-row, and will be preceded by a procession including several beautifufiydecorated and interesting floats, the Municipal Band and the Pipe' Band. The procession leaves the Hibernian Hall at 130 p.m. sharp. Entries for the various sports sections are exceptionally good. The chopping handicap from heats to final, will provide three thrilling contests for which specially selected birch logs have been provided. There will be three major cycling events and a mile handicap for riders not having won a prize of £3 or over. No fewer than nine Canterbury riders have nominated, including the former West Coast, champion, D. A. Morland,, who is in great form at present, but will find in his former Club mates, Phil Duffy, M. Malone and others, some stiff opposition. Other Christchurch back markers entered are R. Sutherland, D. Doyle, Knight, Porter (son of “Dad” Porter of Timaru-Christchurch fame), Barritt, Parker, Cairns and Doherty. Interest for local riders has been increased by the competition for the McQuinn Cup, and some exciting finishes can be anticipated. The .footracing and events comprise ladies’ 100yds and high jump, men’s 100yds, 220yds, 440yds and 880yds, discus throwing and javelin throwing. Greymouth athletes performed very creditably m the recent Mahar Cup contest, at West port, and the leading sprinters and distance runners of the district will be seen in action to-morrow. There will b e the usual comprehensive programme .of National dancing and schools’ events, and a baby show (two sections). Height guessing, weight guessing and stepping competitions, and a number of new and attractive side-shows will ensure that there are no dull moments, and with a booth, tea rooms, sweets and ice cream stalls, patrons will be well catered for t
"G LAN ASH EEN—MONDAY AND TUESDAY. The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will conclude with the production of the brilliant Irish musical comedy “Glanasheen,” at the Town Hall on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Wellknown and popular stage personalities -comprise the cast, which; tor weeks past has been making preparations for an outstanding attraction. Scenery new to Greymouth has been designed by Mr Jim Rhodes, and the lighting effects will be in the hands of Mr R. Henry. A feature of the production will be the elaborate wedding scene, in which .the costuming is particularly attractive, whilst charming bouquets have, been donated by Miss Gwen Robinson. Th e ballets have been arranged by Miss Monica Sinnott, whilst Miss H. Peterson, L.T.C.L., will lead the orchestra of ten instruments. Humorous situations, with delightful Irish wit, should keep the audience' convulsed with laugther. Members of the cast include: Mrs W. Connor, Misses Joan Walker, Gladys Saunders, Daphne Aldridge, and Gladys Foster, Messrs J. Mclnroe, Stan Prescott, W. Ryan, W. Connor, Ron Dolan and P. Blanchfield. The villagers taking part are: Misses P. and E McGrath, R. Ward and M. Bailey. Messrs N. Thorp, W. Corrigan, T. Moore, L. Wearne and R. Walls.
