Beau Vite used the tan tiack at Randwick this morning, and galloped from the nine furlongs post to the four in 1.5. He accomplished h.s task comfortably. High Caste is still being given only steady exercise, but is likely to show his pace next week. Proud Fox, wh.o raced at Victoria Park yesterday, has obviously derived considerable benefit from the race. His stable is particularly pleased, with him. He did steady exercis e this morning, and looks very well. Sir Amyas was not on the tracK. Apparently he is giving some trouble. frotiins Notes Another Charge: It is reported that M. Holmes has been engaged to drive for Mr. J. R McKenzie, when his own horses are not running. At Addington. The Metropolitan Trotting Club o Easter meeting will aga'm extend over three days. The programme includes a Free-For-All for pacers and also one .for trotters. Within: „ The Canterbury owner, Mr. LRussell, has bought the Wrack trotter Within, and placed him in W. J. Doyle’s stable. Within ran unplaced to Certissimus and Martian at Umaru. Ja S C o far this season, Jack Potts has sired 92 winners. Last season his total ran to 121, but so far none of his stock have been named Hump Card. I A Notable Absentee: Some owners appear to be foitunate in the fact that Special Force was not nominated for the New Zealand Derby and other classics. They will however, be able to test his prowess in the Ashburton Futurity Stakes, of £l,OOO, to be run on April sth.
A 1 Successful 1 Mentor: R B Berry is recognised as a master trainer of young horses, anc. for two years in succession he has produced the winner of the Nursery Stakes the first race of the season for two-year-olds in the South Island. Last year Berry produced Waßer Moore in the classic, and the colt won a division of the race in 2min. 11 4-ssec. a record for one of his •j'ee On’ Saturday, Pacing Power was the stable’s hope, and he won in handsome style. This colt is a brother to Horsepower, who, in Berrys hands won the All Aged Stakes, Champion Stakes, and Futurity Stakes at Ashburton, and the Great Northern Derby at Auckland. Other classic winners trained by the Yaldhurst reinsman include Parislenne
BPrby), Attorney (New Zealand Champion Stakes), Valdor (Great Northern Derby), and White Satin (New Zealand Trotting Stakes). Pacing Power is a well grown two-year-old, and appears to have an excellent temperament for racing. Sandiways: A mistake made by Sandiways cost him a chance of getting amongst the money in the Timaru Nursery Stakes. Zincali: The race for the Timaru Trotting Cup does not admit of description, as Zincali outclassed the rest of the field. Great Divide: Results at Timaru suggest that in future Great Divide should be reserved for short distance races. He failed to become prominent in me Tmaru Cup and won in fine style over a shorter course. Scottish Air: Although Scottish Air had to accept second place to Pacing Power in the Timaru Nursery Stakes, it is predicted that he will train on to become a notable performer in the light harness world.
