THE WEATHER

The weather report is as follows— General situation: An anti-cyclone is centred west of Auckland Peninsula, while a- depression is approaching the South Island across South 'Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds moderate and variable over the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere moderate to strong north-westerlies prevailing, and changing to south-west-crlies over Southland and Otago after about twenty-four hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough in Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate, but with a considerable swell south of Kawhia. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds moderate and variable in the northern portion, with slight or moderate seas; elsewhere moderate to strong northwesterlies, changing later to southwesterlies’ in the southern portion; and rough seas. Weather fine east of the main ranges of the North Is-
land. Elsewhere fair to cloudy at first, but rain is developing during Ihe day in Westland, and is extending after twenty-four hours to Southland and Otago. Temperatures mild to warm.
