RAID ON CHINESE

Auckland Detectives CAPTURE SOME OPIUM. AUCKLAND, February 24. Hacksaws and other tools were used by detectives to-night, when they forced their way into 91, Greys Avenue, City, and seized a quantity, of opium found on the premises, and arrested two Chinese. A crowd of people gathered to watch. DetectiveSergeant Aplin was in charge of the raiding party. Two detectives mounted a ladder placed against a verandah rail on the first floor, and, with hacksaws, attacked heavy iron bars in front of the window. Meanwhile, others made an assault upon a steellined door at the back. Within a few minutes the bar had been cut through at the front window, and a detective scrambled through the gap, and let his fellow officers in through the back door. After a thorough search of the premises, the police took the Chinese to the Central Police station.
