Mines Department, Greymouth. The position will be graded in the Professional Division at a salary up to £615 p.a. (plus free house, coal and light) according to qualifications and experience. It is desired that applicants should be holders of a First-class Mine Manager’s Certificate under “The Coal Mines Act, 1935.” The successful applicant will be required to bear any expense incurred in travelling to take up appointment, which will be subject to the provisions of the various Acts and Regulations affecting the Public Service. Vacancies for Female Office Assistants in the Public Service. tN order to release male staff for military duties, the Public Service Commissioner is inviting applications from women, preferably between the ages of twenty years and forty years for clerical duties for the period of the war. Vacancies are most urgent in Wellington, Hamilton, Gisborne, Rotorua, Palmerston North, Masterton and Invercargill, but applications for other centres will also be welcomed. Remuneration will be according to age, qualifications and experience. Salary for suitable appointees will probably commence at £145 or £165 per annum in special cases. Where an employee is dependent on her own earnings a cost of living allowance of £l3 per annum is paid if over eighteen years of age. Salaries are reviewed annually and further increments would depend on the increasing efficiency of the employee and the valuation of the duties performed. Application should be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at Post Offices. Previous clerical experience should be set out clearly on the application form and copies of testimonials should be attached. Any shorthand-typing qualifications should also be indicated. Special consideration would be given to any applicants who have had experience in accounts works. If applicants are within calling distance of the Public Service Commissioner’s Liaison Officer, Mr W. Kane, Public Trust Department, Greymouth, it is desired that the application form be completed and handed to this officer for forwarding to Wellington. Applicants should indicate clearly the town in which they are willing to accept employment. It would be necessary for applicants to make their own. boarding arrangements in such towns.
