LARGE NETT INCREASE
Over Half Million for 40 Weeks I Pei Press Association J WELLINGTON, February 14. The railway revenue figures covering the past 40 weeks were g ven by Hon. R. Semple. Minister of Railways, to-day. Th? revenue amounted to £1,0.37,728. Thi s is' over half a million pounds mor e than the nett, amount earned during last year’s equivalent period. The returns for the four weekly period up to January 4, show a considerable' increas e in both passenger and goods traffic as against the corresponding period of last year, ■-•.’he nett revenue was £191,932 for the four weeks, an increase of £41,214. The gross revenue for the four weeks' was £878,326, which is £74,534 above that for the corresponding period of last year, while the expenditure was £686,394, or only £33,320 more.
Hon. Mr Semple said that for the past forty weeks of th'e current year, the gros's revenue of the service had tota’led £8.194.695, while the expenditure was £7,163,877. The increase in revenue over that of tnc corresponding period . last year was £857,912. The expenditure increase was £318,592.
Thus, he said, th c nett railway revenue for the past 40 week<; was £1.030,728, ns compared with £491,408 ■"or the same 40 weeks of last year, an increase of. £5.39 320.
