Visit to Eire Capital
LONDON, February 4. Mr Wendell Willki e flew to Dublin to-da yto meet Mr de Valera. He expects to return in time to carry out hi s previous plans for his departure. Mr J. W. Dulanty, the Eire High Commissioner in London, accompanied Mr Willkie to Dublin. The Fire Minister for Co-brmiia-fion of Defensive Measures, and Mr David Gray, United Slates Minister at Dublin, were among those present at the Dublin airport to meet Mr Willkie on hi s arrival this morning The visitor was th? guest o’ Mr de Valera at luncheon, and left early in the afternoon by air for England. From what he had seen of aerial warfare, said Mr Willkie, it was not achieving its ends either in killing off the civilian population or in shaking their morale. The war was a war of production, and what impressed him was not what had been destroyed, but what had been produced. After his return from his meeting with Mr de Valera, Mr Willki e saw the King, yesterday. In a London interview, Mr Willkie said: “One thing very definitely I can say, and that is that anyone who is under the impression that the people of this country are not united is under a very complete delusion. I have met hundreds c>f people of a.I kinds and opinions, and without question the British ar? a great people. The British people are aiso most fortunate in their leadership at the present time. I doubt whether in history ther e is any man more ideally suited for the task he has been called upon to carrv through than the Prime Minister oi England.’'
