1940-41 APPRAISEMENT. The appraised value of wool dealt with in Australia for the first part of the 1940-41 season, amounting to about 2,000,000 bales, will be about £32.500,000. It is stated that appraisements for the second part of the season began on January 5. It is anticipated that by the end of March or early in April, approximately 88 per cent of the current season's clip will have been appraised. The appraised value of wool catalogued to date is £27,013,793, of which £25.743,000 has been paid or is due for immediate payment to growers. Since the commencement of the main appraisement for the current season on August 19, the Central Wool Committee’s payments to wool growers have averaged £1,716,200 per week. The average appraised price per lb. greasy for the various States and the Commonwealth are: New South Wales, 11.64 d.; Victoria 12.81 d.; Queensland 12.19 d.; South Australia 11.07 d.; Western Australia 12.01 d.; Tasmania' 12.58 d.; and Commonwealth 11.92 d. The Commonwealth average is less than the average for the corresponding quantity of wool appraised in the 1939-40 season. If this position is maintained it will mean that the flat rate adjustment payment for the season 1940-41 wil be greater than for the 1939-40 season.
