The Totara' is in port loading coal for Tokomaru Bay and is expected to be despatched to-morrow. The Korowai, in port, loads coal for Auckland to-morrow and is expected to sail on Friday. The Wingatui is expected from Wellington to-morrow night with general cargo, and loads coal for return to the same port The Holmlea' is due from Tarakohe to-morrow to load coal for return to Tarakohe.

The Nikau is due from Nelson tomorrow to load coal for Motueka. The Kaitoa is expected from Nelson on Friday to load coal for Picton. Personal: Mr. Cotton, of Wellington, is visiting Westport. Mr. R. Auld, of Nelson, is paying a business visit to relatives at Westport. Miss S'. Connelly, left yesterday on a visit to relatives in Hokitika. Mrs. A. G. Petley, left yesterday on a visit to relatives at Richmond. Mr. T. K. McGillivray, loft for Wellington yesterday on a visit to his people. Miss Rogers, of Waipara, is visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, of Brougham Street.

Mr. and Mrs. R. McDonagh and daughter, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Merrion and two children, have arrived home after spending a holiday in the Nelson district. Ministerial: The Hon. W. Nash and the Hon. P. C. Webb, accompanied by Mr. D. J. Archer (Countj' Chairman), Mr. J. M. Robertson (Mayor), Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, Messrs J. C. Brown and H. P. Rasmussen (Progress League), inspected the pakihi lands development yesterday morning. The Ministers and party were shown over the area by Mr. C. Lemon, officer in charge of the work. Mr. Nash appeared to be impressed by the areas, and expressed satisfaction at the condition of the stock and the state of the pasture. Altogether some 1,500 acres are in pasture, and over 400 head of stock are being fattened. The cow farm unit (100 acres), which is being tried out under modern farming conditions, is showing satisfactory results, and it is hoped that the whole area will be settled at an early date. The Ministers inspected the land drainage works adjacent to the Orowaiti river and along the Nine Mile road. Excellent work has been carried out by the Public Works Department and many miles of drains have been excavated by modern machinery and by hand labour. Some 1.000 acres of land will benefit by this large drainage scheme. The Hon. Nash expressed considerable satisfaction in regard to this work, and was impressed by the quality of the land. The large area of land between the overflow and the Nine Mile, which has recently been taken over by the Government, was also inspected. Mr. W. Stowell piloted the party over the area and the Ministers were very pleased at the advance of this work. With modern plant, it is hoped, in the near future, to establish some 10 farms in this area. Before returning to lunch, the Ministers visited the O’Conor Home and met Mother Mary Magdalen and Sisters in charge, and the old people in residence at the Home. The Ministerial party later visited the aerodrome, where the position regarding an all-weather runway to facilitate the landing of all types of machines in all kinds of weather was lucidly explained by Mr. D. J. Archer, County Chairman; Mr. J*. M. Robertson, Mayor; Mr. O. L. Nahr, President of Westport Aero Club; and other speakers, all of whom stressed the value of Westport as an aerodrome centre. The Hon. P. C. Webb stated reports had been made by Air and Public Works authorities and these should presently be available. The Hon. W. Nash listened to all that was said and stated he would go very carefully into the reports and see what could be done to fulfill the wishes of the speakers. At the invitation of Mr. D J Archer, Chairman of Directors of Buller Valley Dairy Company, the Hon. Walter Nash, who besides being Finance Minister, is Minister of Marketing, visited the butter factory and was favourably impressed with the state of the factory. Before the Ministerial party left for Greymouth, all gathered and gave them three hearty cheers. Leaning out of the window, the Hon. Nash acknowledged the pleasurable time accorded him and his party during their brief stay in Westport.
