EVIDENCE FOR HOUSE Secretary Hull a Witness [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] WASHINGTON, January 14. The Chairman of the House Foreign Committee (Mr Bioom) announced that Mr Hull will be the first witness in to-morrow’s hearing of Mr Roosevelt’s Gill. It is not proposed to invite Messrs Kennedy, Bullitt and Willkie specifically, but they will? be welcomed if they choose to appear. The Bill was to go before the Foreign Affairs Committete to-day when the Secretary of State .(Mr Cordell Hull) was to have been the main witness, but Mr Hull cannot be present, and the examination has been postponed until to-morrow.

BRITISH PURCHASES In North America CHANGES IN ORGANISATION. [Aus. <jz N.Z. Cable Assn.j (Received January 15, 11.25 p.m.) LONDON, January 15. Sir Clive Baillieu has been appointed to succeed Mr. Arthur Purvis as Director-General of the British Purchasing Commission in the United States. Changes in the British Supply Organisation in the United States are desirable, as a result of the great increase in the volume of supplies going to Britain. A new committee, namely the British Supply Council in North America, has been established. Mr. Purvis is the Chairman. Mr. Morris Wilson (President of the Royal Bank of Canada), is deputy chairman. This Council will deal with the policy concerning supply. Sir C. Baillieu will be a member, and also Sir Henry Self (Director-General of the British Air Commission) and Vice Admiral A. E. Evans (head of the Admiralty mission to Canada). There is to be no alteration in the relations between the Supply Departments in Britain and the Department of Munitions Supply in Canada, but, in view of a close connection between the United States programme, the Canadian Minister of Munitions Supply, Hon. M. J. Howe, has agreed to join the British Supply Council. U.S.A. PLANES FOR BERMUDA. (Received J’anuary 15, 11.4 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 15. Five twin-engined consolidated reconnaissance bombers, with a four thousand miles range, have gone to Bermuda with American crews. These machines are being handed over to British pilots in Bermuda.

Foreign Organisations ’ RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED. (Received January 15, 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, J’anuary 15. Mr. Jackson has disclosed that any organisations subject to foreign control which engage in political or military activity in the United States, will now be required to answer detailed questions concerning their finances, affiliations, activities, and organisational set-ups. The organisations must file a copy of every book and every pamphlet issued. MEXICO’S ATTITUDE (Received January 16. 12.30 a.m.) MEXICO CITY, January 15 The Mexican Foreign Minister, Senor Ezequiel Padilla, in a statement to the pres s said: “ An Y aggression against any Pan-American country will be considered by Mexico as aggression against Mexico herself.' When the correspondent of the German Trans-Ocean Service asked him what action Mexico would take if the United States declared war, Senor Padi’.la replied: “I can’t say more ” ■
