MAKOGAI LEPERS.
|To the Editor.] Sir,—On behalf of suffering humanity at the Makogai Leper Station, we wish to thank most warmly all those who responded to our appeal for extra’ comforts. Altogether the magnificent sum of £5,200 was received in cash, and numerous cases of useful goods. We have communicated with the Medical Superintendent and have advised him to conserve much for future years on account of the uncertain times through which we are passing. With the exception of a small cash donation given to each patient at Christmas time, all of this money is spent in New Zealand to purchase special comforts for distribution to the 607 patients on various occasions throughout the year. We would like to take this opportunity of expressing our special thanks to the newspapers and Broadcasting Services in New Zealand for the part they have played in bringing aoout this splendid result.—We are, etc., P. R. CLIMIE, T. FLETCHER TELFORD, P. J. TWOMEY, Trustees, Makogai Leper Fund. Christchurch, January 13.
