DESTITUTE PERSONS

NEW MAINTENANCE ORDER. WELLINGTON, January 9. The Destitute Persons Act, 1910, provided for the attachment of wages to help to enforce maintenance orders, but it did not bind the Crown. In 1939, however, the Domestic Proceedings Act was passed providing that the Governor-Gen-eral might issue an Order-in-Council making the attachment of wages apply also bo emplovees cP Crown. This Order-in-Council was gazetted to-night, under the title of the Destitute Persons (Crown Servants) Attachment Order, 1940. It i s pointed out that the order applies only to maintenance moneys payable under the Destitute Persons Act, 1910. and not to ordinary debts
