MATSON LINERS
In Tasman Cargo Trade AUCKLAND. January 7. A promise that he would arrange for consideration to be given to permitting the Matson Line to carry cargo from Australia to New Zealand has been made by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, in a letter to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. The letter was in reply to representations made by Mr. Coates on behalf of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Fraser then promised to communicate again with Mr; Coates on the subject, immediately he was in a position to do so. In a reply to representations on the subject made direct to him by the Chamber, the Minister for Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, pointed out, regarding the contention that a delay in arranging shipments from Sydney was compelling tea importers to purchase higher grade varieties of tea than would otherwise be the case, that inquiries indicated this experience was not general. The suggestion that arrangements should be made for Matson Line vessels to accept cargo between New Zealand and other British ports had been noted.
