PACIFIC RAIDERS

N.Z. SHIPPING Secrecy Measures [Per P>'ess Association] AUCKLAND January 8. The suggestion that the- closing dates for the import licensing periods should be determined by the dates the goods were ready for shipment from the exporting countries, so as to preserve greater secrecy regarding shipping movements, was made to-day by an Auckland importer. He said that the import restrictions made it essential for traders to obtain detailed information of the arrival dates of overseas vessels, to ensure that the goods imported complied with the stringent requirements of the Government. The mix-up over the third and fourth period licenses made this even more so. While the shipping companies endeavoured to exercise the utmost caution, it was common knowledge that nearly all members of the mercantile community had in their possession detailed information of shipping movements. If the suggestion were adopted, no reference to the names of ships or dates of departure or arrival would be needed, and thus far greater secrecy could be maintained. N.Z. AIRMEN PRISONERS WELL LONDON, January 6. The Berne radio last evening in a transmission to the South Pacific repeated a German bulletin to the effect that New Zealand airmen, captured five weeks ago on a liner en route to England, were aboard the raider and all well.
