Racing Noies Reefton Meeting: The acceptances received for the opening day of the Reefton JockeyClub’s meeting to-morrow indicate that the club can expect a most sue-. cessful meeting. Single pool betting, with two dividends in each race, should give investors an opportunity of enjoying themselves. In the past visitors have found difficulty in securing transport from the railway station to the course, but the club has wisely arranged special bus services connecting with all trains. The horses engaged include several which have not so far appeared on the West Coast circuit, including Cymric. Aggravate, Synthetic, Rabble and Lights Out. Added interest will be given by the attendance of Canterbury’s leading jockeys, who have been engaged in other parts of the Dominion during the holidays.

Trotting rioter A Select Field: The New Zealand Championship, of £4OO, to he run at Timaru on Saturday, has drawn such a select field that the race will arouse widespread interest throughout the country. Consistency: In nine starts this season, Peter Smith has won four races, has been once second, three times third, and once fourth. Certissimus has now started seven times for six wins. Gold Bar’s record is seven starts, four wins and two fourths. Under Saddle: The 2min 5 2-ssec put up by Smile Again has been broadcast as a world’s record under saddle. It is, however, a doubtful claim, as Hollyrood Bon’s, under the same conditions, went. 2min stsec at Maine, U.S.A., in 193 G. In 1938 Cavan Chief went 2min 6sec. Smile Again was got by Adioo Guy from Logan's Mission, by Logan Pointer —Wild Queen, by Wildwood Junior —Regina Belle, by Bellman from Regina, a daughter of a thoroughbred mare.
