LOSS OF £591

Storekeeper’s Cheques [Per Press Association] GISBORNE, January 1. The loss of cheques and orders totalling £591 was suffered yesterday afternoon by Thomas J. Atchison storekeeper, of Ngatapa. A parcel containing the cheques and orders was placed in a glove box on the dash board of Atchison’s car, and after being in Gisborne for some time, late in the afternoon he (Mr Atchison) discovered his loss. One of the cheques is for £lB2, while there are others for large amounts, such as £52. Several of the orders were given by James Gardner, of Ngatapa, on the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.
