REEFTON, December 18.

Mr. John O’Regan, Chairman of Inangahua County Council, who has been a patient in Reefton Hospital for some time past, has recovered sufficiently to be able to leave the institution.

At the monthly meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board on Tuesday, Messrs J. F. S'eawright, T. Watson, B. Mirfin W. S. Clark, F. W. Archer and W. Clayton were present. Mr. S'eawright was voted to the chair. An apology for the absence of the Chairman (Mr. J. B. Auld), was received. The Department of Lands and Survey, Nelson, wrote re residence sites held at Waiuta by the Board, asking if the Board objected to the transfer of one to the Police Department for the erection of a new police station. Mr. Archer moved and Mr. Clarke seconded, that the Board offer no objection to the transfer if the Waiuta Medical Association is agreeable.—Carried. The Department of Health wrote re bank overdraft to March 31st., 1941. Mr. Archei’ moved. Mr. Clayton seconded, that an application be made for an overdraft to £5OO for the period.— Carried. The Director General of Health advised approval of expenditure of £358 on the erection of a new porter’s cottage and additions to staff quarters.—Received- North Canterbury Board and Thames Board each advised admission of lan Inangahua patient, to its hospital. The Social Security Department, Greymouth, advised of an extension of employment for Scheme 13 man for the Board. Sister Sharpe tendered her resignation as Maternity Sister. Dr. Wicken (Medical Superintendent), reported: Admitted 26, discharged 32, deaths 3, in-patients 27; X-Rays 3, births 6, anaesthetics 12, out-patients 2, attendances 2. Matron Kane reported: Miss Kingan, Maternity Nurse, h,ad commenced du.ty, and Sister McEwen had resumed duty after annual leave. Accounts were passed as follows:— S’. Austin £H; W. At the Magistrate’s Court, judgment for plaintiff by default was obtained in each of the following cases: F. Thorp v. J. W. Hocking, £22 2s 9d, with costs £4 4s 6d; F, G. Lynch v.

James Henry £3 17s 6d, with costs £1 5s 6d; J l . McElwee and Sons v. Jack Rodden (Senior) £6 19s Id, with costs £1 10s 6d; Roderick McLean v. Cyril Rochford £l2 with costs £2 14s od. Mervyn James Parish, a miner, of Waiuta, was charged with carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of sixteen years. Evidence was taken and accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed, self £lOO with two sureties at £5O each, or one surety at £lOO. The Maintenance Officer, Petone, proceeded against Mervyn James Parish, for (1) disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of his wife to the extent of £5 17s Od; and (2) disobedience of maintenance order in favour of his children to the extent of £4 10s. Accused was convicted in each case and ordered to pay 7s 6d per week in each case off arrears. The Maintenance Officer, Reefton, proceeded against —*mn Leo Parish, for disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of a child to the extent of £lB 18s Od. He was convicted and sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment in Paparua Prison, issue of the warrant to bg suspended until the 30th. instant. The Maintenance Officer, Auckland, proceeded against Albert John Peard, for (1) disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of his wife to the extent of £45; and (2) disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of his children to the extent of £27. Both cases were dismissed. A fine of 10s with costs was imposed on C. Conlon for speeding in a motor car and one of £1 on R. Wright for driving without a license.

At the Warden’s Court, applications were granted as -'follows:—William Thomas Strand, Special Quartz Claim. 19 acres 2 roods, Block XIV, Reefton; Nicol James Webster, for Ordinary Prospecting License, 100 acres, Block XIV, Reefton, and Block 11, ’Waitahu; Fenwick Joseph Dodd, ordinary prospecting license, 84 acres, Block VI Reef ton S.D. (Costs 13s 6d allowed to Objectors, J'. W. B. and 3- J« Cooper); G. McClatchie and Co., Ltd., Special Site, 4 acres 2 roods, in Block XIV, Reefton S.D.; Mossy Creek Gold Dredging Co., Ltd., to surrender two Prospecting Licenses.
