BRUNNER NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent! Messrs L. and B. Kennedy arrived from Wellington on Saturday evening to spend a holiday with their parents, Mr and Mrs D. Kennedy Taylorville. Mr R. Burns, telegraph messenger, has been transferred from the local P.O. to Greymouth, office. Miss J. Dando left on Thursday for Seddon, where she will reside. Mr s Greener and daughters arrived from Westport on Saturday evening to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs M. McDonald. Mrs J. Jackson and son have returned to Taylorville after a holiday spent in Christchurch. A large and appreciative audience attended the annual concert 'and prize giving of the Taylorville School, which took place in Wallsend Hall on Friday evening. Following is the programme presented: There’ll Always be an England; Sing a Song of Sunbeams; Run Rabbit Run; Wings Over the Navy; Harbour Lights (A. Rowlands and M. Fentiman); N.Z. Boys Are Marching (soloist, Jessie Wilson); Ten Pretty Girls (A. McPhie); Army, Navy, and Air Force (G. Robb, C. Falconer and D. Campbell); Items by the Infants; Butterfly Land (Marie Devlin and Leila Sneddon); The Quaker Girl (Margaret Coates); Mouth organ solo (Joe Harper); Dear Little J’ammy Eace (Rena and Eleanor Belli); Play (junior boys); Faithful for Ever (Claire Smith and Margaret McFarlane); March “Good Luck” (girls); Pyramid building (boys?; Std. 1 and 2 girls: I’ve Got a Pain in my Sawdust; Play (junior girls.); pperatic dance (Beryl Rostern); Duet: You May Call Me Honey (Betty Findlay and Jean Mclntosh) Play: “Burglars” (senior boys). Before the presentation of prizes, Mr T. Morgan (chairman) thanked everyone who had helped with the concert, also, 'he said, he would like to thank the anonymous donor for the supply of ice-cream and sweets the children had received that evening, and on behalf of the pupils he called upon Miss Watson to accept a leather music case with every good wish for a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. k Lance Bell presented Miss Watson with a bouquet. The School honours list is as follows: Most popular girl and boy (prizes donated by Mr Smith): Girl; Cathie Robb; boy, Joe Flarper; Dux boy: Derek Smith; Dux girl: May Fentiman; 2nd in Std., Joe Harper. Std. 5: Duncan Campbell 1; Clarence Falconer 2; Betty Findlay 3. Std. 4: Margaret Smith 1; Thelma McFarlane 2; Adelaide Rowlands 3. Std. 3i Jean Scott; Shirley Campbell 2; Wilfred Hoggarth 3. Std. 2: Claire Smith 1; Margaret McFarlane 2; Alan Burns 3. Std. 1: Agnes Robb 1; Jack Fentiman 2; Constance Kilkelly 3. Sewing prizes were awarded to: Std. 6: May Fentiman; Std. 5: J'ean McIntosh; Std. 4: Margaret Smith; Std. 3: Rena Bell; Std. 2: June Coutts; Std. 1: Betty Kilkelly. A gift evening in honour of Miss Joyce Bennie, whose marriage takes place on Frdiay, was, tendered her at i the home of Mrs E. Kerr, Taylorville, on Saturday evening. An en-' joyable time was spent by the large number present. Competition winners were: Messrs R. Moth, A. Bernard and J. Browning. Community singing was a populam item. Musical items were contributed by Mrs Browning, Mr N. Gibson, and Mr H. Bell. The hostess served a dainty supper after which the guest opened her gifts and much amusement was caused in the reading of some of the congratulatory notes enclosed with some. Mr G. Meagher returned thanks on behalf of his fiancee. Mr R. Moth also thanked Mrs Kerr for the pleasant evening they had all enjoyed. The annual break-up socifal and presentation of prizes of the Brunner Presbyterian Sunday School was held on Saturday. Rev. F. H. Robertson presided. Games and competitions were played and items contributed by S. McCalumJ Margaret Smith, June White, and M. Filer. A Christmas tableau “Birth of Christ,” was presented by the Kindergarten pupils. ,On behalf of the Sunday School children Mr Coutts presented Mr and Mrs Robertson with a cushion with best wishes.
