LONG HOURS WORKED
20 OUT OF THE TWENTY-FOUR. AUCKLAND, December 16. “I work 20 hours a day out of the 24,” said an appellant before the Auckland Area Manpower Committee. Apellant said he was employed at a freezing works at night while during the day he attended a strawberry plot containing 70,000 plants. For the past two years he had also been building himself a house. • On a recent occasion appellant said he had returned home from tne freezing works at 1.15 a.m., had packed strawberries until 3.15 a.m., and had then gone to bed, asking his father >l.o wake him at 5 a.m. Rising at that hour he had picked strawberries until he had to leave for the freezing works again. “1 do not look much, but you can come out and see me’, work some time,” said appellant, who was ' a man of slight build. Mr. S. Takle: I suppose you are sorry that there are not more than 24 hours in a day. Appellant: I am at times. Postponement of territorial. service on the ground of hardship was sought by the appellant. The hearing was adjourned.
