' Now a member of G. W. New’s team-, he is a compactly-made three-year-old bay gelding by the Paper Money sire Inflation out of the Sarto —Evcarte. mare Koro, who never raced, but was a full-sisted to Ahuriri and Fresco, who were both winners in the South Island about a dozen years ago. He is owned by his breeder Mr F. L. Roberts, of Kornako,, near Ashhurst, a. son of the late Mr D. H. Roberts, who raced Fiery Cross, Red Heckle, J'olly Beggar, and many other well-known horses. Battle Gain Consistent:

Batle Gain, who emerged from maiden ranks with a dividend win at l<eilding recently, was deserving of the turn, as he has at least been consistent since commencing his race career under G. W. B. Greene’s care a few months ago. In all he lias been out only six times, and his record has been a second, a fourth, a .third, a second, a fifth, and a dead heat for first. He carries the colours of Mrs 'A. M. Rutherford, of Mauriceville, who raced Dareccurt, Daregain, etc., and usually has a horse in training, and he is another of the Gaincourts, being out of the Hymestra—-Conflict mare Conflicting, the dam also of Camilla Horn and secured by Mrs Rutherford ' at the dispersal sale of
