AS WE STATED LAST WEEK, THESE ATTRACTIVE CARDS, WHICH WILL BE MOST USEFUL TO THE HOUSEWIFE, MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE LEAGUE’S ADDRESS (P.O. BOX 1905, AUCKLAND), AT 4 A 1/-. WHOLEMEAL SHORTBREAD. 10 ozs. wholemeal. 8 ozs butter. 4 dessertspoons castor sugar. Cream butter and sugar and work in meal well. Press into flat tin, making mixture about b inch thick. Score with fork. Cook in slow oven 1 hour. Cut into pieces while hot and leave till cold. Electric oven, 350 deg., top off, bottom low. NUT LOAF 3 ozs. butter. 2 ozs sugar. 2 egg yolks. 2 egg whites, vanilla 2 ozs. wholemeal. 1 teaspoon baking powder. x 3 ozs. mixed nuts (minced). Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, beat well. Add vanilla, wholemeal, baking powder and nuts. Lastly fold in stiffy beaten whites. Bake in one sandwich tin at 330 deg. F. WHOLEMEAL PRUNE CAKE. 4 ozs butter. pinch salt. 8 ozs. brown sugar. 2 eggs. 4 ozs. wholemeal. 8 ozs. prunes (weigh after soaking 4 ozs. flour. and removing stones). 1 level teaspoon soda. A few raisins and walnuts may be 1 level teaspoons cinnamon. added. Cream, butter and sugar and add well-beaten eggs. Mix soda and cinnaman with flour and whoelmeal, and add alternately with the fruit. Bake for: 1 hour at 350 deg. Index No. 5—3. WHOLEMEAL GINGER GEMS. 1 lb., butter. 1 teaspoon soda. 2 small eggs. : 1 dessertspoon hot water. 1 cup golden syrup warmed with ?. cup sugar. 3 tablespoons milk. 2 teaspoons ground ginger. 12 ozs. wholemeal. 2 teaspoons mixed spice. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs well, then add milk and syrup. Mix in' dry ingredients and lastly soda dissolved in hot water. Bake in hot greased gem irons at 450 deg. F. RAISIN BEAN MUFFINS. 1 cup wholemeal. b teaspoon salt. 2 teaspoons baking powder. One-third cup brown sugar. 1 cup bran. 2 ozs. butter. 1 egg. 2 cud milk. 5 cup chopped raisins. Mix dry ingredients, rub in butter. Mix with beaten egg and milk. Add raisins, blend well, and bake in greased! patty tins at 450 deg. F. for 20 minutes. CHEESE AND VEGETABLE SHORTCAKE. 2 cups wholemeal. 4 teaspoons baking powder. b teaspoon solt. 4 tablespoons butter. " cup milk. 1 cup grated cheese. Mix wholemeal, baking powder, salt, rub in butter; add cheese and mix to a stiff dough with milk. Bake in two greased tins .at! 400 deg. F. for .25 minutes. Serve hot with vegetagle filling between the layers.
