FLOWER SHOW

ST. JOHN’S SOCIETYAlthough entries were not as numerous as usual in some sections, an exceptionally high standard of exhibit was shown at the annual daffodil show of St. John’s Horticultural Society held yesterday at St. John's Hall. The various sections were beautifully staged, and an added attraction was a display of daffodils by the judge of the cut flowers’ classes, Mr. Lewis, of Christchurch. Mrs. A. Coumbe and Mrs. Black were the . judges of the decorative section, and ■ Mr. P. Blanchlield, senr., adjudicated in the domestic classes. The show was officially opened by Rev. A. D. Horwell, and there was a large attendance. Stallholders and officials were as follows:—Tea-rooms: Mesdames T. Learmont, J. McKenzie, J. Shannon, R. Thompson; daffodils and other cut flowers: Mrs. W. Steer; decorative: Mrs. J. Leitch and Miss A. Clements; work stall: Mesdames C. Gunn and 1. Bennington; delicatessen: Mesdames R. Logan and W. Roxburgh; sweets: Mesdames Woodhouse, J. S , Howson, and Misses Chisholm and R Nimmo;’ cakes: Mesdames P. J. McLean, J. P. Forbes, W. P. Hambleton, and Miss J. Hambleton; secretary: Mrs. O. McLean. A challenge cup presented by Mrs. ; John Tennent for the daffodil section, was won by Miss J. Craig. The trophy carries with it a miniature cup, which becomes the property of the winner. Miss Craig also exhibited the champion bloom. Mrs. G. Kear, obtained the most points in the decorative section, Miss Craig being the runner-up. The trophy for the most points in the domestic section was won by Mrs. W. Sharp. Miss C. Wilson secured most points in the Cut Flowers’ Section, • Miss Craig being runner-up.
