lOur Own Correspondent], Following the splendid social ac ' corded the local members of the Third. Echelon on the previous Saturday evening, the .residents themselves were entertained last Saturday evening by the school children at the'r end-of-term concert. After some weeks of careful training by the teaching staff and other helpers, the children produced an entertainment which well merited the rounds of ap-: plause accorded the several items. In detail, the programme included: “O'd Man Care,” song by senior pupPs; play, “Troubles in Toyland,’’ by the Infants; "Chinese Songs,” senior boys; “Goloshes,” poetry by the Babies; "Butterfly Dance,” action song, by seniors; "Three Little Pigs,” play by Babies; choral speaking, seniors;! "Rendezvous,” action song by Ngaire Henry, Dawn Hartiel, Doug. Innes;, poems and songs, by the Infants,; "Piccaninnies,” action song and dance by Mick Dennehy, Margaret Morrow, Shir'ey Brown, Patty Fischer, Ray-; monel Blunt, Dan Dennehy; pianoforte solo, Bobbie Langridge; “Quack Doc-, Lor,” action song by girls and Stanley Orr. Cliff Mitton, Raymond Blunt; J "To a Miniature,” action song by Ber-, nice Werner and Mick Dennehy; "Dame Durden” and "Gifts to the Motherland,” musical plays by the, whole company; “The Arabian Ring, i play by seniors. The children acqui-.-, ted themselves with great credit and the audience, which must have in-j eluded all the residents from Puna-i kaiki down to the 10-mile, was spontaneous in its appreciation. In a. short speech at the conclusion of the i concert, Mr Wafer, chairman of the .School Committee, sincerely thanked, the people for their attendance, anil pointed out that from the financial success obtained, the committee would be able to go ahead confidently with 1 its general programme of school and. grounds improvements. Mr Wafer ex-j pressed pleasure in introducing four' of the senior pupils, who, in neat; little speeches, made a presentation of a box of chocolates to Miss Heen-I an in appreciation of her untiring! work in the training and supervising; of the children's efforts; and also a presentation of a bouquet to Mrs Mc-j Duff in appreciation of her help in the accompanying of the songs, etc., on the programme. Supper was then served to the kiddies and adults. Later, Fischer’s Orchestra provided spirited music for dancing. The whole of the evening's proceedings went with a general swing, and it is confidently expected that /prior to the Christmas vacation we may again have the pleasure of seeing and hearing the kiddies in action.
