The chairman, Mr D. A. McLean, expressed regret at the fact that Miss McConnon, the assistant mistress was leaving the school to take up a new position in Petone. He referred to the excellent work she had done in the school. The Headmaster (Mr L. J. Thwaites), also added his appreciation of Miss McConnon’s work and expressed regret at her leaving. On behalf of the boys and girls, Jeff Rose presented a pair of book-ends and Mary Rodgers presented a bouquet to Miss McConnon, who said she regretted leaving Kumara as her parents both had spent their school days there. She thanked the children for the gifts and would retain pleasant memories of Kumara. The Headmaster then expressed his appreciation and thanks to those who had assisted in the concert and to the parents for their co-operation. The procedeings closed with the New Zealand National Anthem, ‘‘God Defend New Zealand.”
