(Received August 5, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 5The “Daily Mail” states: The Japanese Embassy at London reveals that the British have arrested three Japanese journalists. The arrests were mad e at Rangoon on Friday last and at Singapore on Sunday. The Singapore Arrest WELL-KNOWN JOURNALIST (Received August 6, 11.40 p.m.) SINGAPORE, August 5. The Japanese here express surprise at the Japanese journalist Mr Kobayashi’s detention, but they state that he is being well treated. He was permitted to take a suitcase containing clothing, etcetera. Mr Kobayashi is well-known m Singapore. In addition to his Eastern News work, he was the Domei Agency correspondent when the Eastern News was started. More Japanese ARRESTED BY BRITISH. LONDON. August 4. Two more Japanese have been detained. They are Tayayuki Egucln, an employee of the Bank of Formosa, and Mrs Milley Yoshii, the Germanborn wife of a Japanese painter. The police here on Saturday arrested a Japanese, Geturo Yamaguchi, under the Emergency Defence Regulations. Yamaguchi, who is a business man, recently arrived. He irequently travelled between Cafiton and Hongkong. Further arrests are expected. DRASTIC MEASURES Japanese Threats GOVERNMENT’S DETERMINATION (Received August 7, 11.55 p.m.) TOKIO, August 5. The Domei News Agency says: The Japanese Government has fully determined to take drastic measures in the event of th e Anglo-Japanese situation becomes worse over “the repeated illegal arrests of Japanese residents.” Chugai said that the Japanese Government will demand that the British shall release the Japanese arrested, and shall give a guarantee against any further arrests. Both would be without any connection with Japan’s espionage arrests. Gaimusho said that he and Mr Matsuoka (Foreign Minister) and Foreign Office chiefs, had discussed the London arrests and also counter measures. However, he declined to give any details. He said they were awaiting more information before formal action was taken by Mr Matsuoka through Sir Robert Craigie.

ANTI-BRITISH MEETINGS

In Japanese Cities (Received August 5, 11.40 p.m.) TOKIO, August 5. The Domci News Agency’s Osaka correspondent says: An assembly here decided to hold an anti-British meeting on Wednesday. The assembly passed the following resolution: “For the sake of establishing the solidarity of Greater Asia, we demand that the influence of outrageous Britain shall be annihilated.” Similar meetings will be held in Tokio. The Japanese spokesman, Mr Suma, declined to comment on the London arrests of Japanese, pending detailed reports. The cables from London he said i.vere being delayed.
