REEFTON, August 2.
The Rev. David Calder, who was Minister of Knox Church, Reeftor., in 1906, and is now secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, will be in Reefton from Sunday till Wednesday. He will conduct the scixme in Knox Church on Sunday evening. After nearly a fortnight’s fine weather, rain set in yesterday evening, hut lasted only a couple of hours; and to-day has been fine, though cloudy-. Among the members of the Third Echelon from Burnham Gamp who arrived last evening were Privates L. BurroweSj L. Watson, Bannail, C. Maher, (L. Bartie, ,P. Keenan, T. Hansen, D. Dobson, G. Hunt and R. Lister.
The late Mr Thomas Burrowes, who was laid at rest at Westport, to-day, was a most popular supporter of the trotting sport, and esteemed by all who knew him. He was a grandson of the late Mr Henry Diedrichs, of Lower Kokatahi, the wellknown station-owner, and was boiu at Kanieri 37 years ago, where his parents were very well .known. His wins were always popular ones, and he will be missed by his wide circle of friends. He is survived by his father, who resides in Christchurch, four ’sisters, Mesdames F. Lynch (ReeftOn), J. Dillon (Rolleston), C. Davids - ®.. (Christchurch) and J. Adamson (Harihafi); also three brothers, Harry (Springfield), Jack (Christchurch) ■ and Les (Burnham Camp. The funeral was very largely attended, the cortege leaving St. John’s Church, Westport. The pairbearers were members of the Owner>’ and Breeders’ Association. Mrs J. Dillon, Rolleston and Mr Harry Burrowes, Springfield, arrived yesterday to attend the funeral ot their late brother.
