BALKAN ENTENTE
GERMAN ESTIMATE Turkey in Quandary I Aust. & N.£ Cable Assn.j (Received August 1, 5.30 p.m.) BERLIN, August i. The “Boersen Zeitung” says; A continuance of the Balkan Entente would not be justified after the Salzburg and Rome talks. Roumania s voluntary association with the Axis policy and her impending agreement with Bulgaria and Hungary mean tnai she already ha s repudiated the Balkan Entente’s policy and organisation. Jugoslavia and Greece have drawn their own conclusions from this. Doubtless they will also abandon something which has brought them but little in the past, and which can only harm them in the .future. Tm - key has never faced up to the fact that her entry into the camp of the Western Powers has signified in” exit from Europe. The end of tne Balkan confronts Turkey with the problem of adapting, herself to the policy which her Balkan partners have embraced, or will embrace, or of continuing her withdrawal from Europe, and of making It final and definite. .. . BUCHAREST, August 1. An additional tax of 7 per cent ad valorem will, be imposed «n all oil shipped abroad, making the total tax 20 per cent, which will be payable before the oil crosses the frontier. Oil circles say this new tax is unjust to the producer, because Germany is the largest consumer of Roumanian oil, and she will not pay a penny more for her supply.
