It is announced from Auckland that Colonel James E. Barton, who has been for 14 years organiser and four years assistant-secretary of the Auckland Diocese, has been appointed Diocesan Secretary,. to fill the vacancy created by the consecration of Archdeacon Simkin as Bishop. Mr William Noel Mackie has been appointed assistant Diocesan Secretary.

The death has been announced from Wellington of Commandant Annie Whittaker, a retired Salvation Army officer aged 68. Since 1913, when she was transferred from Britain, she devoted herself to women’s social work in New Zealand, serving in institutions at Christchurch, Wellington, and Dunedin; also at Pakatoa. She resided in Auckland, and after retiring in 1928, only recently went to Wellington.
