OFFICERS IN TRAINING. WELLINGTON, July 29. Under the schem e for intensive training of the Territorial Force for home defence, 1695 officers and noncommissioned officers are undergoing special training at district schools or instruction said the Minister of Defence (th e Hon. F. Jones). In addition, three units, at full war establishment, are undergoing training at home stations. In the northern military district ther e are 114 officers and 433 nujlo’s in training. They are drawn from: Artillery, 41 officers and 134 n.c.o.’s; engineers, 2 and 31; and the infantry, 71 ana 268 —making a total of 547. There are 102 officers and 417 n.c.o.’s in training in the centra: military district, mad e up of 29 officers and 10b n.c.o.’s from th e artillery, 4 officers and 16 n.c.o.’s from the engineers and 69 officers and 293 n.c.o.’s from the infantry, a total of 519. In the sounern military district there are 92 officers and 397 n.c.o.’s made up of 19 ollicers and 80 n.c.o’ s from th e arfiL lery, 4 officers and 24 n.c.o.’s f. urn the engineers and 69 officers and 293 n co.’s from the infantry, a total of 489.

In addition to these, the Army School’ at Trentham is training for the district signals companies 8 officers and 10 n.c.o.’s There are, therefore, 331 officers and 1354 n.c.o.’s a total of 1695 in training throughout the Dommon preparatory to going into damp with their units in October for three months’ intensive training.

The First Battalion Auckland Regiment. First Battalion Wellington Regiment, and First Battalion Canterbury Regiment were at full war establishment, and were training at their home stations. The Minister said the training of these battalions would conclude with a month in camp m September. In addition, coast and anti-aircraft artillery units ar e also training at full war establishment.
