SHEARERS’ PAY RATES
AGREEMENT REACHED. WELLINGTON, July 26. The Special Committee under the Shearers’ and Shed-hands’ Agreement, have fixed the following rates of oav for the coming season: Shearing by machine, not less than £l/10/6 per 100. with rations. Shearing by hand, not less than £l/13/- per 100, with rations. Where shearers find their own rations, an allowance of 4/- per day shall P3 Stud sheep and hogget rams at the rate of one and a-hal'f. Other rams, double the ordinary rate. The rates of pay for other workers are: Pressers. £4/10/6 per week 2/51 Per hour. All other shea | hands. £4/0/6 per week, or 2/3. pei hour Cooks, where cooking for 12 men' or under. £5/0/6' per week, oi 2/3 per day for less than seven days Wher e more than 12 men have to be catered for. the rate shall be increased by 2/6 per week for each additional man. Where the number exceeds 18, an assistant cook must be employed and for over 38 men the rate is to be fixed by mutual agreement. Cooks assistants will receive £4/5/6 per week, or 16/2 ner day if less than seven days. * Special rate for work after noon on Saturday are; Pressers 2/0 2 pet hour, shed-hands, 1/10 per hour It was reported by the preside of the Sheepowners’ Federation (Mi. H. D. Acland) the annual meeting that a special committee met at the Government Statistician s office to fix the index numbef governing rates of pay in the coming season. He added that negotiations had commenced with a view to the extei sion of hours in the , industry in the coming season, so production under war conditions would be assisted.
