Trotting Notes
Pleasant Guy’s Futur® A good opinion is held of the Washdyke pacer Pleasant Guy, and the manner in which she won a double at the recent Oamaru meeting suggested that she would experience little difficulty in making her way to a much tighter mark. She is a well-bred sort by Adioo Guy (sire of Grand Mogul, Smile Again, and Southern Smile! from the King Cole mare Pleasant Drive (2.17), a daughter of Queen’s Drive, who also produced Promenade (2.11 3-5), Black Admiral (4.26 2-5), Bay Admiral (4.32), and Master Roy (2.44 1-5). It is a splendid winning family, and to date Pleasant Guy looks certain to add to her record next season.
Change of Quarters The well-known Taranaki trainer R. J'. Laird has secured a property at Claudelands, and he has already moved into his new quarters. At the moment he has Snowy Bingen and Orleigh Mills in work, while he is also looking after the stallion Great Parrish. t
' Ace Pot at Addington A recent addition to F. C. Dunlevey’s stable at Addington is Ace Pot, a gelding who has been in several • trainers’ stables without getting very far in the handicaps. However, he is a reliable beginner who would require to show only a little improvement to pay his way around the country meetings.
Still On Easy List Heroic Prince has made a complete recovery from the injuries he received a few weeks ago, but he is still on the easy list and no plans have been made for his immediate future. The Australian-bred horse is on comparatively loose marks over all distances, and it is probable that he will not be asked to race again until well into the coming season. A Good Guide
In past years the National Handicap, decided on the third day of the Addington August meeting was looked to as a guide to the winner of the New Zealand Trotting Cup, and among those that have won both races are Birchmark, Durbar, Trix Pointer, Author Dillon, Agathos, Peter Bingen, Harold Logan, Indian- 1 apolis, and Lucky Jack- The only
previous winner of the New Zealand Cup likely to figure in this year’s race is Morello, who was successful in 1938.
Club King in North Club King, who won races for M. B. Edwards, has been purchased by Mr A. Corrigan, and he is now trained at Te Rapa by M. Stewart. There are few speedier improvers in commission than the son of Jack Potts, and as he is still on a handy mark he should experience little difficulty in paying his way in Auckland.
